Rensselaer County resident Robert Hilton, of the Town of Nassau, was arrested Friday, Dec. 2, on a warrant stemming from a State Police investigation and grand jury hearing.

Troopers were first contacted in August 2021 with a report through the Rensselaer County Child Protective Services regarding an alleged sexual abuse incident involving children that occurred in Nassau.

Investigators determined that Hilton had sexual contact with a child under the age of 15 in the early 2000s.

He was arraigned in Rensselaer County Court on two counts of second-degree rape, a felony. A judge ordered him jailed in lieu of $25,000 cash or bond.

Police said the investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact New York State Police at 518-583–7000.
